American Entrepreneur Jim Rohn once said, “Nothing is more powerful for your future than being a gatherer of good ideas and information. That is called doing your homework.”
However, the truth is gathering information and ideas through homework is easier said than done. Homework is a boring and time-consuming task and takes up a chunk of the day. As a result, students are barely left with the time to focus on other tasks. In fact, students often feel compelled to ask their parents – “please help me do my coursework for me”, to submit all the homework on time. However, continuous help from adults is observed to negatively impact a student’s cognitive abilities.
Then how can a student complete homework on time without asking others, “help me do my coursework online?” Here are the steps they can follow:
1. Find a good study environment
If a student is inclined to make himself self-sufficient and feels “I do not want to pay someone to do my coursework,” they must first find a good study environment. It can be any place -a room in a house, coffee shop, library or a shed in the garden but the place should be well-lit, well ventilated and away from any distractions. Mobiles and social media profiles must be switched off. No distractive sound, like audio from a TV or stereo system, must provoke one to lose focus.
2. Set your schedule
It is imaginable that everyday classes end with homework assignments that must be delivered on the next or next-to-next day. Thus, every evening will be spent on completing these tasks. But is it all a student has to do in a day? Of course not. There are multiple academic tasks, from preparing for term-end examinations to completing the subject modules. Plus, every student engages in co-curricular activities. Therefore, they have to participate in and practice these tasks as well.
Added to it is the household task they do as a part of being a household member. Then how can someone complete all these tasks? It is through a schedule. If tasks can grossly be compartmentalised and slotted to be done at a section of the day, multiple tasks can be handled easily.
3. Make a to-do list
The to-do lists work hand-in-hand with a schedule. It is especially useful when an individual has a plate full of tasks that seem impossible to be devoured in a day. Highlight every task by colour based on its importance.
Ensure to cross through the tasks once completed. Moreover, allot the most complicated homework at the beginning of the day while the most interesting ones for the time when the energy fades. It will help in completing all the tasks on time at the end of the day.
4. Keep all materials nearby
Completing all homework on time is all about devoting complete focus to the task at hand for a longer period. Keeping all things handy helps maintain focus throughout the time homework is done; therefore, keeping all the stationeries, reference books, calculators and water bottles near the study table.
It will not kill time to get up to fetch a book located at the corner of the highest rack in the bookshelf or fill a water bottle. Thus, time will be saved, and students can ensure to complete the homework on time.
5. Make sure to understand the material
Suppose a person is assigned to cook a spinach and cheese ravioli from scratch, but without knowing what a spinach and cheese ravioli is, one can never create the dish.
Homework writing is quite similar. Again, understanding the materials is essential to complete the task on time. Else hiccups are bound to add curves to the straight road and take away precious time.
To understand the materials quickly, one may:
- Review the class notes
- Watch a video on the subject
- Concentrate on visual learning (like images, graphs, diagrams, etc.)
- Take help from friends
6. Challenge yourself with the time
Completing homework on time is all about running against the clock. The habit of taking up the challenge and setting the mind with thoughts like “I will complete this SQL Homework Help in 30 minutes” will help a student beat the clock.
The other technique that works perfectly is Pomodoro. It is basically used to fool the brain that there is no such task to be done in a day and let it be stress-free.
To implement this technique, one must complete a chunk of the task in 25 minutes and only take a 5-minute break after completing the task. For example, after accomplishing 4 pomodoros, the aim should be to complete a larger chunk of a task in 20 minutes and again, after 4 such pomodoros, the break must be increased to 10 minutes.
The process must be continued once a huge task is completed in a significantly low time. This deadline must be followed through/ following this technique will ensure the completion of all the homework in
an astonishingly low time and leave ample hours of the day to spend on things most enjoyed.
The longer breaks between tasks will give the brain much-needed rest.
7. Find a study buddy
Find a companion to study with. The study buddy can be anyone from a parent to a sibling, cousin or friend. Studying with others helps share knowledge on the subject and solve the problems that appear while working on the task. Moreover, it reduces the boredom of working on homework and helps complete the task on time.
However, one must ensure not to chat or play video games while working on homework; it will have a negative impact.
Having said that, some individuals may still feel reluctant to share the study space with other individuals physically even though Covid-19 has reached its endemic stage in most parts of the globe. In that case, virtual study buddies can also have a similar impact.
8. Acknowledge the efforts
Some students are too critical of themselves. As a result, they fail to acknowledge what they have achieved. However, at times, the road is so difficult that it becomes unbelievable that the destination is reached.
However, without caring for what the world says, it is important to appreciate personal accomplishments and win over the hurdles that come through. It acts as a motivator to lead the roads lying ahead with the same determination and focus.
Self-appreciation does not indicate spending a lot of money on lavish parties; a cube of chocolate or a scoop of ice cream can also make one feel good. After all, the little things in life can bring the widest smiles.
To sum up,
Completing homework on time is essential for a student to succeed in academics and learn time management – the essential skill that pays off throughout the lifetime. Most importantly, the more a student completes homework, the more he learns and the better the GPA he scores.
